Destroying Angel Lumen is Here!
The complete four issue monthly series is available as a subscription and issue 1 is out now!
Each issue is 50 pages of stylish action and adventure in the Magnificent McMillen Manner!
Destroying Angel Lumen continues the story I started in my first comic Lumen. But it’s also designed to work just fine if it’s your first Lumen comic.
Maybe even just your first comic?
The plan when I started the original Lumen was to do it as an ongoing series.
Bad plan. I see indie comic creators do that all the time and it almost never works out. “This is my first comic, and I’m gonna do 50 issues of it!”
STOP.
I was (and still am) very inspired by Michel Fiffe’s Copra which is (will always be) one of the great ongoings; and I thought I’d do an ongoing series too.
I realized then not only how hard that is, and how foolhardy to commit to such a long run on your first comic project, but that I don’t really like writing ongoing projects.
I like endings. And beginnings. I love series comprised of miniseries.
What better suits this story is a sequel. But also, a fresh start. I kept thinking about George Miller’s Road Warrior movie. I didn’t even know it was a sequel to Mad Max when I saw Road Warrior as a kid. I didn’t need to know what happened before, Max and his world felt lived in like the original Star Wars felt lived in; finding out there was a previous installment was just a bonus as an audience member. It wasn’t necessary to enjoy this new story.
Same experience with Evil Dead 2; thanks to the title I knew it was a sequel but it didn’t matter that I hadn’t seen the first one.
This worked all on its own.
Same goes for Destroying Angel Lumen.
But if you are returning to the story of Esteban Vela; welcome back to the Nocterra.
A lot has changed. But nothing important.
You’re still here.
